Concrete Along the Arkansas
Boone is a small statutory town along the Arkansas River in Pueblo County, and concrete contractors working here plan around low river-valley ground and a hot, dry plains climate. The town sits at 4,465 feet, lower than any other community on our list, and covers less than half a square mile. It had 339 people in 2010 and 305 in 2020.
A town with a famous namesake
Boone began as Booneville during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, founded by Albert Gallatin Boone, a grandson of Daniel Boone. The Booneville post office opened in 1863, and the name was shortened to Boone in 1891. The town was formally incorporated on September 22, 1956. The population has held near 300 for years, so much of the concrete work in town is on existing homes, where driveways, walks and steps have aged with the houses.
River-valley ground
Towns along a river often sit on soils laid down by the water over time, and lots near the river can hold moisture longer. Concrete needs firm, well-drained support. On Boone jobs we:
- Dig out soft or organic soil under the slab area.
- Bring in a granular base and compact it in layers.
- Slope the finished slab so water drains away from the house.
- Avoid placing slabs where runoff collects.
The Colorado Geological Survey notes that clay soils common on Colorado's plains can swell when wet and that poor drainage is a leading cause of cracked and heaved driveways and patios.
Hot summers, cold snaps
Boone shares the semi-arid climate of nearby Pueblo, which averages about 72 days a year at 90 degrees or above and a record low of 31 below zero. Concrete here has to handle both extremes. That means air-entrained mixes for freeze-thaw resistance, early-morning pours in summer, and real curing so the surface does not dry too fast.
Small slabs, done properly
In a small town, many projects are modest: a pad for trash cans, a landing at the back door, a short walk to a shed. Small jobs deserve the same care as large ones. A 4-by-6 landing still needs a compacted base, slope away from the door and a joint where it meets the house so it can move separately. A shed slab still needs to be level and slightly above grade so the floor stays dry.
We often combine several small pieces into one visit. Pouring the landing, the walk and the shed pad on the same day reduces the delivery cost per piece and gives you a matched finish across the yard.
Tackling efflorescence and stains
Older concrete in Boone sometimes shows white mineral deposits or rust stains. Cleaning with the right product often brings the surface back. Sealing afterward slows the return of efflorescence by limiting how much water moves through the slab.
Same office as the city
Boone is one of only two places the Southern Colorado Building Department serves, the other being the City of Pueblo. If you dealt with the old regional department on an earlier project, its website now sends Boone and city addresses to the new department. Unincorporated neighbors around Boone go to Pueblo County instead, so it is worth confirming that your parcel is inside the town limits before assuming which office applies.
Work we do for Boone homes
Driveways that replace worn concrete or gravel. Walkways and steps that have cracked or pulled away. Patios for the back yard, including stamped finishes. Slabs for sheds, garages and carports. Concrete repair for cracks, spalls and sunken sections. Building permits for the Town of Boone now go through the Southern Colorado Building Department, which replaced the Pueblo Regional Building Department on January 1, 2026 and serves only Boone and the City of Pueblo. We check with that office about your project before work starts.

Boone Questions
Does being near the Arkansas River affect concrete in Boone?
Low ground near a river can stay wetter, and wet soil gives weaker support. We remove soft soil, build a compacted gravel base and slope slabs to drain.
Who issues building permits in Boone?
Since January 1, 2026, the Southern Colorado Building Department, which also covers the City of Pueblo. We check whether your project needs one.
What causes the white crust on my old concrete?
That is usually efflorescence, salts carried to the surface by water moving through the slab. It points to moisture coming up from below and can often be cleaned off. Better drainage reduces it.
