Practical Concrete for Blende Homes
Blende is a small unincorporated community just outside Pueblo, and the concrete contractors who serve it mostly replace and upgrade concrete around established homes. The census-designated place had 788 residents in 2020 on about 0.84 square miles, roughly 940 people per square mile, at 4,738 feet. Blende has never had its own post office; mail comes through Pueblo's 81006 ZIP code.
An established community
Blende once had its own elementary school, and before 1953 local students went to Pleasant View High School. Since then the area has been zoned to Pueblo County High. The Census Bureau first defined Blende as a CDP for the 2010 census. Homes here have been lived in for a long time, and the concrete around them shows it: cracked driveways, heaved walk panels and patios that have sunk toward the house.
Fixing what has moved
When a slab has tilted toward a house, water runs to the foundation instead of away. That is the problem we address first. Options include: 1. Section replacement: remove the sunken part, rebuild the base and pour new concrete with proper slope. 2. Crack sealing: for stable cracks, a flexible sealant keeps water out. 3. Resurfacing: for slabs that are level but worn or scaled. 4. Full replacement: when the slab is broken in many places or too thin.
The Colorado Geological Survey says cracked and heaved patios and driveways are common signs of expansive clay and that poor drainage makes it worse, so we always look at downspouts and grading too.
New concrete for an old lot
Blende homeowners also add new concrete:
- A wider driveway or extra parking pad.
- A backyard patio, plain or stamped.
- Walkways to a side gate or garage.
- A slab for a shed or carport.
What a careful estimate covers
A useful concrete estimate does more than give a price. On a Blende job, ours lists:
- Square footage and thickness of each slab.
- Base material and depth.
- Reinforcement type.
- Concrete mix, including air entrainment.
- Finish type and any color or stamping.
- Joint layout.
- Removal and haul-off of old concrete.
- How drainage will be handled.
With that detail, you can compare quotes on equal terms and see where any price difference really comes from. If another bid is much lower, check whether it skips base work or removal.
Sealing and upkeep
Once a new slab cures, a penetrating sealer helps it resist water and freeze-thaw damage. Reapply every few years, and keep cracks and joints sealed so water stays out.
City address, county rules
Blende mail carries a Pueblo address, which leads plenty of owners to assume city rules apply. They do not. Blende is unincorporated Pueblo County, so building questions go to the Pueblo County Building Division, not the Southern Colorado Building Department that has handled City of Pueblo permits since January 1, 2026. We confirm which office covers your parcel before quoting any work that might need a permit.
Driveway widening
Many Blende driveways were built one car wide. Widening means either pouring a new strip alongside the old slab, tied in with dowels, or replacing the whole driveway so the color and surface match. If the old slab is still level and sound, adding a strip saves money. If it is cracked or sunken, one new pour is the better buy.
Weather we plan for
Pueblo, a short drive away, averages 28.3 inches of snow a year and about 72 days at 90 degrees or warmer. Blende shares that climate. We use air-entrained concrete for frost resistance, pour early on hot days, and cure every slab properly. Because Blende is unincorporated, we check Pueblo County requirements before starting.

Blende Questions
My Blende patio slopes toward the house. What can be done?
The usual fix is removing the patio, rebuilding and compacting the base, and pouring new concrete sloped away from the house. Mudjacking or foam lifting can work on some slabs if the concrete is still in one piece.
Are hairline cracks in my driveway a problem?
Hairline cracks are normal shrinkage. Sealing them keeps water out. Cracks that widen or have one side higher than the other point to base movement.
Is Blende part of the City of Pueblo?
No. It is an unincorporated community governed by Pueblo County, though it uses a Pueblo mailing address.
